A cold Friday afternoon in Dunboyne saw the Seneschalstown girls take to the field in their opening game in the Division 1, U-14 Spring League against a typically strong Dunboyne side who already had 1 win under their belt. After a valiant effort, the Seneschalstown girls just ran out of time losing by a single point.

Following a late pitch inspection from referee Jason Plunkett, the senior sides from Donaghmore/Ashbourne took to the field of play in Ashbourne in front a crowd which was well sheltered from the biting wind which blew directly down the field of play towards the town goal.

The 2017 League campaign got off to a disappointing start for Seneschalstown on Sunday as they fell to a thirteen point defeat to Na Fianna in Fr. Tully Park after a somewhat lacklustre display. Trailing by ten points at the interval after hitting ten wides, they managed to rack up a few more scores in the second period but could never get close enough to spark strong hopes of a comeback.

There was more than an element of controversy to how things panned out in Kilberry on Sunday morning but over the course of the 80 minutes the benefits of Wolfe Tones having a competitive outing the previous week were on show for all to see as they looked a fitter, sharper outfit, not that Seneschalstown will be overly perturbed with that considering the Championship starting date is three and a bit months away.
