U-14 Summer League Roinn B Round 5

Rathkenny 7–10 Seneschalstown 6-12

When Seneschalstown travelled to Rathkenny last Thursday for the latest round of their Summer League they did so in the full knowledge that they would be in for a stern examination of their ability as on the two previous occasions the sides had met each side had recorded a win apiece and there was little between them on each occasion.

It was Seneschalstown who were to get off to the better start as they garnered plenty of possession but they were unable to make full use of this as they struggled to turn it into scores. As the half wore on Rathkenny came more and more into the fray and by half time they had whittled the Seneschalstown lead down to just four points, 2-09 to 3-01.

The second half was a frenetic affair and started off with both sides exchanging scores before Rathkenny enjoyed a golden five minute spell during which they outscored their visitors by 2-01 to 0-01. The Seneschalstown boys didn’t buckle under this pressure and hit back with some outstanding scores of their own and with time almost up had reduced the deficit to the minimum. The sands of time were running out for them though and try as they did they were unable to conjure up a score which would have tied the game up.

These are two cracking young sides which are a credit to their clubs and as some who were in attendance remarked “This was a game you would gladly have paid into”. While they may have lost out by a point these Seneschalstown youngsters continue to win admirers with their talent and positive attitude on the field.
