Masita Meath Ladies SFC Round 4

Royal Gaels 2-12 Seneschalstown 1-12

On an evening where some serious rain showers fell in Dunshaughlin Round 4 SFC the teams from Dunshaughlin and Yellow Furze served up a very entertaining game with little more than a kick of a ball separated the teams throughout with Royal Gaels taking the spoils.

Points from Nina Murphy, Stacy Grimes, Louise Coyle and Mena Sheridan were enjoyed in the opening quarter but Dunshaughlin were proving very dangerous going forward and Meath Star Niamh O Sullivan enjoying a fine game from midfield. The Furze girls were 4 points behind before a fabulous strike from Louise Coyle who stole a yard on her tight marker Laura Ryan before and found the back of the net with a sublime shot to close the gap to the minimum. The Gaels responded in the next attack and found the net to establish a four point lead again. Roisin Commons kicked a final point before the end of the first half to maintain the 4 point gap between the teams at half time.

Royal Gaels 2-07
Seneschalstown 1-06

The Second half started as the rain poured down and Seneschalstown began to dominate possession. Louise Coyle opened the scoring and herself and Stacy Grimes exchanged 2 points apiece. Indeed, it took Royal Gaels 15 minutes to register their 1st point of the second half where they were held to only scoring 3 points in total. Aoife Lenihan pointed a fine score but Despite enjoying a better half and with some noticeably bad wides Seneschalstown couldn’t reel the Gaels in and 3 points separated the teams at the final whistle.

A superb defensive display from late replacement Aoife Sheehy in goals Mena Sheridan Natasha Mullen Ruth Commons Seanaidh Hickey Amy Gilsenan Leanne Clarke and substitute Aoibhe Monaghan holding the Gaels to only 3 points in the second half. Midfielders Nina Murphy (0-01) Aoife Lenihan (0-01) put in a big shift while half forward line of Kiah Geraghty Stacy Grimes (0-04 f) Shona Loughran were kept at bay. Inside line of Roisin Commons (0-02) Louise Coyle (1-04) Shauna Fitzgerald and substitute Caragh Monaghan all contributed but just fell short at the finish.
Seneschalstown while bitterly disappointed will take encouragement from their display where only a kick of a ball separated them from one of the Senior Championship title contenders. Three championship matches remain with all still to play for.
