U-13 Girls League Round 3

Seneschalstown 2-07 Gaeil Colmcille 0-03

Following a very physical encounter the U-13 girls from Yellow Furze showed their great team spirit, courage and bravery to overcome a tough Kells side on Thursday evening.

After a few early misses Mallaidh Breen opened the scoring with a lovely point. With possession hard come by it was tough going for these girls but they showed they were up for a battle fighting tooth and nail for every ball.

Lauren Donnelly’s effort at a long range point ended up in the back of the net and another goal by livewire Orla Finnegan after great work from midfielders Donnelly and excellent fielding from Caragh Monaghan took some pressure off the girls.

Another lovely point from young Anna Wogan kept the scoreboard ticking over in what was becoming a very difficult game to score in. Ms Wogan again found the back of the net but this was disallowed on consultation with the umpires for a heavy challenge on the Kells goalie. Gaeil Colmcille then hit a point before Mallaidh Breen closed out the half with her second point and this left Seneschalstown ahead by 2-03 to 0-01.

Kells threw all at Seneschalstown early in second half and scored two points without reply.
It took Seneschalstown ten minutes to open their account in the second half with a royal battle for possession leading to some very physical challenges being shipped on both teams.

Leading from the centre half back Aoibhe Monaghan who was assisted with great work alongside her from Zoe Kirwan and Lauren McCarthy defended like tigers. The inside line of Aine Nangle and Sadhbh McLarney was impenetrable with McLarney imperious in the tackle. The cool head and superb kicking from goalie Ava Jane Ryan gave this team great confidence and heart.

Lauren Donnelly fired over two more excellent points and substitutes Zoe Ryan and Niamh Traynor contributed to the excellent team effort. The inside forward line of Sinead McLarney and Ella Kilfeather were proving a handful for the Kells defence.

After weathering a huge effort from the Kells girls the Seneschalstown heroines were inspired and two excellent points soon followed from Orla Finnegan and Caragh Monaghan after great passing and teamwork involving Anna Wogan.

Battered and bruised as they left the field a magnificent display of heart, hunger, bravery and courage resulted in a fine victory for these group of girls who remain unbeaten after Round 3 in the Autumn League. Credit to the Kells girls who pushed them all the way.
