Seneschalstown 5-25 Dunderry 0-01
The Junior D team from Seneschalstown travelled to Kilberry on Saturday evening eager to maintain their 100% record in Group C of the Championship thus far. With a number of alterations from their Round 3 victory over Dunshaughlin enforced this was expected to be a test of the panel’s strength in depth. However, what was to unfold over the course of the game was a very easy victory as Seneschalstown overpowered the men from Dunderry.

The Junior D team from Seneschalstown travelled to Kilberry on Saturday evening eager to maintain their 100% record in Group C of the Championship thus far. With a number of alterations from their Round 3 victory over Dunshaughlin enforced this was expected to be a test of the panel’s strength in depth. However, what was to unfold over the course of the game was a very easy victory as Seneschalstown overpowered the men from Dunderry.
Seneschalstown burst from the traps when the ball was thrown in with James Gillic pointing after only twenty seconds when receiving a lay off from Eddie Meade after excellent work out the field from Ronan Conneely. Meade followed up soon after with one of his own before roving corner back John Muldoon displayed his eye for a score when pointing.
Three further points on the bounce arrived from Colin Lynch, Gillic and Meade before centrefielder Darragh Keogh netted the first of his two goals when finishing off a move started by veteran centre-back Steven Dillon. Within seconds Meade popped up with another goal and at 2-06 to 0-00 after ten minutes the game was as good as over as a contest.
Meade tagged on another point on twelve minutes before Muldoon with his second of the match, this one from out on the left and Tommy Duggan extended the team in blues advantage.
Having already got one goal, Keogh was clearly enjoying himself and managed a second major which was quickly followed by another from Colin Lynch. These goals being sandwiched by a Meade point from play. Wily wing forward Mark Gleeson then kicked two points on the trot, the second of which came following excellent work from the industrious Keogh.
Corner back Muldoon might not be known for his high fielding but the next score came as a result of him winning a ball in the air at midfield with the ball then being worked to Gillic who tapped over his second point of the game. Brendan Lynch then got Seneschalstown’s fifth goal of the half in the twenty second minute. Colin Lynch took over the scoring from there until the interval kicking three points, two from play and one from a free, with Dunderry’s only score coming in the middle of this run.
As the teams emerged back onto the immaculate playing surface on what was a very warm evening for football the Seneschalstown management availed of the opportunity to ring the changes and introduced Cormac Mullen, Ian Carroll and last year’s full forward Martin Clarke.
These substitutes made an instant impact and became the scorers in chief as the victors scoring rate dropped significantly. Carroll got the opening two scores of the half, the first of which was set up by Gillic before Clarke gave cause for the white flag to be raised when pointing.
Colin Lynch brought his scoring to a close when registering another free kick before being replaced by David Gordon who took over the free taking duties upon his arrival and almost immediately split the posts with an effort before the influential Shaun Doyle strode forward to score a magnificent right footed point.
With the game petering to a close there still remained enough time for Mullen, Brendan Lynch and Carroll to keep the scoreboard ticking over before the final whistle was sounded to leave Seneschalstown in pole position to top Group C. Next up for them in the championship is a match against fellow table toppers Drumconrath while they also face the North Meath men in the league on Tuesday evening in what is sure to be a tough encounter between two sides in third and fourth positions in the table.
