Debuts aplenty in Ashbourne

Donaghmore Ashbourne 3-11 Seneschalstown 3-05

Seneschalstown were defeated by Donaghmore Ashbourne under lights in Ashbourne in this Division 1 Round 2 fixture.

The home team opened the scoring with a point from play in the first minute and it took until the sixth minute for the next score to arrive with an equalizing free from Stacey Grimes. The Seneschalstown girls hit the front a minute later when Louise "Cheesy" Coyle slotted home her first goal from play. The home team’s response was immediate with a point from play and struck for their first goal in the tenth minute. The next fifteen minutes were to prove crucial as the home team tagged on 2-05 without reply. On the run in to the break Cheesy bagged her second goal which was followed by a fine point from play from Nina Murphy while Kelly Smith also had two palmed goal attempts kept out by the home keeper to leave the HT score at 3-07 to 2-02 to the home side.

In the third quarter scoring was at a premium but three points from play in a row from Shauna Fitzgerald gave the Seneschalstown girls hope heading into the last ten minutes. However, the home team tagged on a number of points to increase the lead again before Cheesy completed her hat trick with a fine finish to the roof of the net. Next up for the ladies is a home match with St Ultans.
