Dee Rangers defeated as Ladies pick up first win

Masita Meath Ladies SFC Round 4

Seneschalstown 1-12 Dee Rangers 0-11

On a glorious evening for football our Senior ladies still looking for their first win in the Senior Championship overcame a strong Dee Rangers side on Tuesday night in what was a crunch tie.

Leading from the start our former outfield All Star Grainne Nulty who took up her position between the sticks was a driving force behind the team with fantastic distribution and a particular game saving save deep in the second half.

Our latest Leinster Champion Stacy Grimes opened the scoring for the Furze after good work from her half forward colleagues of Kiah Geraghty and Shona Loughran. Amy Gilsenan enjoying her new role in the Full Forward line soon found the back of the net with a goal after great play from Full Forward Louise Coyle and Shauna Fitzgerald. Three points from the Syddan outfit ensured that the game was going to be a close affair and the sizable crowd was enjoying the opening quarter. Stacy followed up with a free before Louise Coyle hustled over a fine point after showing great strength at the edge of the square. Flying corner forward Shauna Fitzgerald scored the final point of the half. With several points from frees for The Rangers. The Seneschalstown players were only the bare minimum ahead at half time of only one point setting up the second half to be a tense affair.

Half Time
Seneschalstown 1-04
Dee Rangers 0-06

The second half got off to a flyer with a fine point from midfielder Nina Murphy. A just reward after hitting the post from an acute angle in the first half. Herself and young Aoife Lenihan who was putting in a huge shift alongside her in a new midfield partnership.

Shauna Fitzgerald scored another fine point from play. Seneschalstown were enjoying the majority of possession and were extremely unlucky when Shona Loughran hit the post when a goal was fully deserved after a magnificent attack and interplay. Dee Rangers kept in touch with a couple of points but the Full back line of Ruth Commons Natasha Mullen and Mena Sheridan and substitute Aoibhe Monaghan excelled in defence. The half back line of Seanaidh Hickey Orla Garry who was a real leader on the pitch and Leanne Clarke ensured the team was on the attack from the start and when corner back Mena Sheridan finished off a real quality point from play the large home crowd sensed it was going to be their night.

Points from Stacy and Cheesy after good work from substitute Aoife Sheehy followed and a great long-range point from the returning substitute Roisin Commons was a sight to behold. A late surge from Dee Rangers seen them edge closer and they were denied a goal late on by a fine save from Nulty before she was eventually beaten by a fine move only for the woodwork to deny the Rangers and forward Amy Gilsenan clearing off the line. Cheesy and Stacy finished off the scoring for the Furze to ensure a much-needed win for the Seneschalstown girls.

Particular mention to Coach Anthony Monaghan who was ably assisted while on holidays by Grainne Nulty and George Donnelly.
