B League Division 1 Round 5

Seneschalstown 0-15 Skryne 1-07

Seneschalstown continued their recent winning run of form when accounting for Skryne on Saturday evening on a rain sodden pitch in Fr. Tully Park. Having won two Championship games since their last League game back five weeks ago they were eager to collect two points and a blistering opening eighteen minutes after which they were eleven points ahead laid the foundations for this victory.

Within a minute of the throw in the Dunbia sponsored outfit were two points to the good after a Neil Darby point and a fine effort from centre back Paul Carey. Jonathan Gilsenan quickly added his name to the score sheet before Shane Clarke registered twice, the first coming after he had gathered an effort from Sean Noonan which had rebounded off the post and the second from a free to the right of the uprights.

On five minutes Adam Gleeson scored an excellent individual point. Gathering a kick out from the Skryne goalkeeper he drove at the defence before punting the ball over the black spot. Soon Sean Noonan got his first of the game when splitting the posts with his right foot, after a very good move involving Sean McCabe and Gleeson which started when McCabe executed a superb block in his own defence. Tean Cummins got in on the scoring act before Adam Carey making a trademark run from his left half back berth got on the end of a delivery from Noonan before slicing the ball over the bar from out near the sideline.

Shane Clarke tapped over another free following a foul on Gleeson before Gleeson brought the blistering opening to a close when scoring his second effort of the game.

The scoring dried up from there until the end of the half but Clarke did get the final score when pointing another free to leave the half time score reading Seneschalstown 0-12 Skryne 0-00.

Skryne opened the scoring for the second half when pointing a thirteen metre free before Clarke replied three minutes later when scoring a fabulous effort over from a tight angle out on the right hand side following good interplay between himself and Adam Gleeson.

The Tara men then hit a purple spell as inspired by first half substitute John Quinn they outscored the home side by 1-06 to 0-00 between the thirty ninth and fifty ninth minutes. 1-03 of this total came from play with Quinn grabbing the goal to leave only three points between the sides with a minute of normal time remaining.

However minor player Noonan steadied the Seneschalstown ship in stoppage time when pointing twice to ensure they emerged victorious by five points a margin which could have been even more comfortable had they taken more of their chances with the total of fourteen wides leaving some work to do.
