Seneschalstown 3-10 Walterstown 1-8

Seneschalstown overcame a gallant Walterstown outfit in this re-arranged Girls U-16 Division 2 game played in Fr Tully Park. As Division 2 is played on the Fair Play basis, this game was played 11-a-side which increased the workload on every player on the pitch.

The home side had most of the early pressure and the Walterstown net minder was called into action early to deny Aoife Mulvany in the third minute and Shona Loughran opened the scoring for the home side from play on five minutes. Katie Geraghty added another point from play three minutes later before Loughran added her second point on ten minutes following an excellent crossfield pass from Kelly Smith. A fine team move started by a good interception from Leah Ryan at the back ended up with Kelly Smith driving the ball to the back of the Walterstown net.

Walterstown were getting more and more into the game and struck two points in quick succession. Shona Loughran got her third point from play before Walterstown hit two more scores and could have had a few goals but found Shauna Gordon in good form between the posts for the home side. The back four of Aoife Darby, Ella Waddington, Leanne Clarke and Leah Ryan were working hard to repel Walterstown attacks. Aoife Mulvany pointed a free from the left following a foul on herself before two well taken goals in quick succession by Loughran and Chrystal Delamere had the home side leading 3-05 to 0-04 at the break.

Walterstown opened the second half with two fine points while the home team were squandering chances before Mulvany added her second point this time from play to settle the home team. Delamere added to that soon afterwards from play but Walterstown kept plugging away and added two further points. Aoife Lenehan then got on the scoring act, cutting out a clearance and firing over from about thirty meters. Smith added to her tally after dribbling the ball soccer style away from her opponent before driving over the bar from the ground. Delamere closed the scoring for the home side with a point from play. Walterstown closed the scoring with a deserved goal with the last play of the game eventually beating Gordon who had denied them a number of times during the game.

Both teams deserve great credit for the efforts in a game which was played in a great spirit.
