Seneschalstown 1-04 Summerhill 2-09

Almost six weeks after their first game in the U-14 League Seneschalstown played their second on Thursday evening when they played host to Summerhill in Fr. Tully Park. In a game which was played out on a fine evening for football it was the visitors who emerged victorious as they showed a greater ability to create scoring opportunities than the Seneschalstown youngsters.

Almost six weeks after their first game in the U-14 League Seneschalstown played their second on Thursday evening when they played host to Summerhill in Fr. Tully Park. In a game which was played out on a fine evening for football it was the visitors who emerged victorious as they showed a greater ability to create scoring opportunities than the Seneschalstown youngsters.

The ‘hill almost got off to the perfect start on thirty-four seconds when the ball got palmed to the net only for the referee to adjudge that the goal was to be disallowed for a square ball. Despite this setback they still managed the first score of the game when pointing soon after only for Seneschalstown’s Liam Maguire to immediately hit back when sending a rasping drive to the back of the net.

From there though to the half time interval it was all Summerhill as they opened up a 2-05 to 1-00 lead which could have been even greater only for the brilliance of Cathal Darby in goals for Seneschalstown who pulled off a couple of very impressive saves, one in the fifth minute with an outstretched foot being particularly noteworthy.

When the second half got underway it was Seneschalstown who got off to the brighter start and a potential comeback looked possible when first Liam Maguire with a great score and then Will Finnegan pointed. Summerhill though managed to quench any potential comeback when hitting three points on the bounce and could have had a goal only for Cathal Darby to pull off a superb point blank stop.

Seneschalstown kept plugging away and wing forward Aaron Traynor received reward for a solid second half when he swung over a majestic point from out on the right. Will Finnegan then added his second but Summerhill closed the game out when they pointed once more.

Best for Seneschalstown were Cathal Darby, Liam Maguire and Woodley Nicholson who unfortunately had to leave the fray just before the end after sustaining a facial injury.
