Meath Reserve League Round 5

Seneschalstown 0-12 St. Peter’s Dunboyne 0-10

To the back drop of the new pitch development Fr Tully Park, Seneschalstown reserve league team recorded their second victory of the competition with a win at home over Dunboyne on Wednesday evening.

Immediately after the U-10 boys had their training game finished but the two teams arrived out for the warmup and it was Dunboyne however who started the game strongest from the throw scoring an excellence point from play. Kevin Casey and Francis Sheridan got to grips with the midfield and set up some nice passages of play with the full forward line of Tommy Ledwidge, Eoin Finnegan and the Stag Gleeson showing well. Barn dance Finnegan took aim at the underside of the cross bar in the first half twice in the first half with rockets of shots, to the amazement of the large crowd neither shot went in.

Finnegan with the skin tone of a lad who had enjoying the summer so far on foreign soil was a constant thorn in the Dunboyne defence. Ruairí McDonagh, fresh from a pre match gym session and a sponsored set of gloves proved a solid selection in goals, keeping a clean sheet, was safe under the high balls and excelling on the kickout – giving manager Mattie McCabe something to think about with sweeper keeper Gordon spotted on Snapchat enjoying himself plenty in Spain. Chris Dunleavey dominated the small square at full back for Seneschalstown and grew in confidence as the game went on, Ruairí Keogh’s reading of the game and anticipation was excellent and Philip Sheridan was getting some vital turnovers and ‘hands in’ – meant the home team full back line were giving the team an excellent platform into the game.

Shane Mulvany was introduced early in the first half due to an injury to corner forward Tommy Ledwidge. Notable was the large Seneschalstown panel with the welcome return of some young guns McDonagh, Conor Cantwell, Shane McGeer and Dylan Doyle also present. Seneschalstown brought on rested Aiden Finnegan into the middle of the park early in the second half to shore up the middle, Damien McDonald came in to good effect, slotting in at half back and Conor at half forward both playing ‘complete passes to the inside forwards at vital phases of the final quarter and Seneschalstown pushed on to win the game. Casey dropped back to centre back to sure up defence and linked up ell with Rob Derby and Neil Darby, both shooting two each from play and the two footed Niall McCabe at centre forward were showed well. Next for the Seneschalstown Junior C team is a must win Group A championship match V Clan Na Gael next Tuesday evening the 19th in Walterstown, a win here will see then through to the competition quarter final.
