Dunshaughlin got their B League Division 2 campaign of to the best possible start with a home win against Seneschalstown. Two goals either side of the half time break proved to be crucial scores.

Points from David McMahon, Michael Johnson and Declan O’Dwyer (2) kept Dunshaughlin in contention as Seneschalstown looked to be going into the break leading by 0-06 to 0-04. But David Devereux was fouled inside the large rectangle in the 30th minute and he stepped up to calmly slot the resulting penalty to the back of the net, giving Dunshaughlin a 1-04 to 0-06 lead at the break.

When play resumed, it wasn’t long before Dunshaughlin had the ball in the net again. Good interplay put David McMahon through with only the goalkeeper to beat. McMahon kept his nerve and fired straight down the middle to raise a green flag. Devereux added a point minutes later before Seneschalstown hit back with a point of their own. But Dunshaughlin had another purple patch and fired three points unanswered from the boots of Declan O’Dwyer, Devereux and Graham Dowd to lead by six. Seneschalstown did manage two consolation points in the final moments, but Dunshaughlin ran out worthy winners on a 2-08 to 0-10 score line.

Best for Dunshaughlin were Kevin Moyles, Alan McLoughlin, Fearghal Delaney, Graham Dowd and David Devereux.
