Meath Ladies Coca Cola Senior Football Championship Round 4

Seneschalstown 2-13 O’Mahonys 0-6

On a perfect evening for football, Seneschalstown got the better of a gallant O’Mahonys outfit in Round 4 of the Coca Cola Meath Ladies Senior Football championship played in Brews Hill.

The Navan girls had the best of the early exchanges and opened the scoring from play on five minutes and also has some efforts drop short. Louise Coyle opened the Seneschalstown account with a point from play on nine minutes and this was followed shortly by points from Lauren Kelleher on ten minutes after good work from Aoife Lenehan, Amy Gilsenan on eleven minutes and Róisín Commons on twelve minutes to settle the winners. Gilsenan added to her account on twenty minutes with another point from play after a great crossfield pass from Stacey Grimes. The next two points for Seneschalstown on twenty eight and thirty three minutes from Coyle were well worked team score, both coming from excellent interceptions from Mena Sheridan at the back and good team play involving Siobhan Sheridan, Adelle Carolan and Grimes. O’Mahonys did reply with a free in between those Coyle scores before Gilsenan then added her third point of the half from play to close the first half scoring at Seneschalstown 0-08 Navan O’Mahonys 0-02.

The second half started with Seneschalstown kicking two poor wides and just like they did in the first half O’Mahonys opened the scoring with a point from play after thirty three minutes. Aoife Lenehan then added to the Seneschalstown girls tally with a point from play on thirty five minutes after some excellent work from Natasha Mullen. Three of the next four scores came from the Brews Hill outfit with points from a free on thirty eight minutes and points from play in the forty second and forty fifth minutes with the lone reply for Seneschalstown from Orla Garry from play on forty one minutes. The Seneschalstown rear-guard of Sheridan, Orla McMahon and Aishling Taaffe were working hard to repel the Navan girl’s attacks. Gilsenan got her fourth point from play on forty six minutes before the first goal of the game arrived with just over ten minutes remaining when Róisín Commons blasted the ball to the net. Seneschalstown’s second goal from Grimes arrived on fifty eight minutes from a free for a foul on the returning Lizzy Doran and was of the fortunate variety as the O’Mahonys player misjudged the flight of the ball. Grimes added another point from a free a minute later before Siabhra Reilly closed the scoring with a point from play on sixty one minutes after good work from Doran and Grace Cahalane.

One of the pleasing things from tonight’s game was the return to action of Seanaidh Hickey after serious injury while Lizzy Doran also returned to action.
