B League Division 5 Round 7

Seneschalstown 1-14 Drumconrath 0-13

Having been promoted from Division 6 last year when they got to the final before losing out to Ballivor Seneschalstown kept their aspirations of reaching the Division 5 decider alive when emerging victorious on Tuesday evening in Drumconrath following a very tight battle against their hosts.

At the end of the first quarter the two sides were level on four points apiece and already it was clear that this match was going to be much different to Seneschalstown’s last league outing when they had a fourteen point winning margin over Ballivor.

Moments into the second quarter the visitors fell two points in arrears but if there is one attribute which this side has in abundance it is the ability to battle hard. Through plenty of hard work they pulled this deficit back and had edged two points ahead after rattling off four points on the bounce by the time the half time whistle was sounded.

Having worked so hard to attain the half time lead the team came out at the outset of the second half like a team possessed and kicked a further five points in a row to move into a thirteen points to six lead.

Points are never taken home from Drumconrath easily though and they began to claw back our advantage to equalise with time almost up. At this point a goal was almost certain to secure the victory if a team was to manage one, and manage one we did when the wily David Hosie popped up with a major to give Seneschalstown some breathing room. Two further points were added to extend the lead and while Drumconrath did manage to narrow the gap to four the Mattie McCabe managed charges held out to secure both points.

Next up for the team is their final Group C match in the Championship when they will face Drunconrath in a game which will decide which of the teams will finish on top of the group. The game has been fixed for Thursday July 3rd in Castletown at 20:00.
