Seneschalstown over came Rathkenny in a closely contested match in Seneschalstown on Sunday morning last.

Seneschalstown were first on the scoreboard with a point from play from corner forward Brian Sheridan on the 2nd minute. They soon added to this with 2 further points from play from James Conlon and Shane Clarke on the 4th and 5th minute which seen the full forward line with a point each in the opening 5 minutes of the match. Rathkenny responded well to this with points from play on the 7th, 10th and 12th minutes respectively. With Seneschalstown dominating midfield they added two further scores from play on the 13th minute from Stephen Finnegan and on the 17th minute from Adam Gleeson. Rathkenny added a further point from play on the 19th minute before goal came on the 20th minute when Donal Curtis found the back of the net leaving 2 points between the side in Rathkenny’s favour. Rathkenny scored another point from play on the 23rd minutes but with conceeding frees, allowed Sheridan step up and kick 2 points on the 25th and 29th minutes before the break of half time.

Rathkenny kicked off the scoring in the second half with a point from play on the 31st minute. With Rathkenny conceeding more frees, Sheridan kicked over the black spot on the 37th and 45th minutes. Substitute David Hosey and Sheridan added 2 further points from play on the 49th and 51st minutes leaving the Yellow Furze side up by 2 points. With Rathkenny not scoring since the 1st minute of the second half they needed scores and when Seneschalstown conceeded a free on the 56th minute this allowed them to kick over a point from free. Rathkenny soon added another point from play on the 57th minute leaving the sides level with 3 minutes of normal time remaining. Hosey scored another point from play on the 59th minute which was soon added with an excellent sideline free from Sheridan on the 60th minute. Substitute and full back Cormac Noonan finished off the scoring on the 61st minute with an great point from play leaving the home team winner by 2 points.
