U-14 Girls Division 2 Round 6

Seneschalstown 6-06 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-05

After a nervous start in Fr. Tully Park on Monday evening the Seneschalstown U-14 Girls completed a great comeback to take maximum points against a strong Donaghmore Ashbourne side who hit the ground running and went into a 1-02 to 0-00 lead after 10 minutes.

The Furze girls didn’t panic and began to get a firm grip on the game. After playing in a Leinster semi-final earlier in the day for Loreto School Sorcha Gough showed no signs of tiredness, driving the team forward at every chance. Orla Finnegan finished off a great move to score a great goal to settle nerves and soon this was followed by another goal from Mallaidh Breen who was a constant threat on the edge of the square. Donaghmore Ashbourne fired another goal and point in what was fast becoming a memorable game to leave the score 2-00 to 2-03. Ms. Gough found the net again after great outfield work and Orla hit the net for a fourth goal. Lauren Donnelly finished off the half with a point and Donaghmore Ashbourne scored a fine point just on half time, 4-01 to 2-04.

A few changes were made at half time and the Seneschalstown girls powered on in the second half. A point from Sorcha Gough was followed by a lovely point from substitute Eabha Garland. The visitors kept in touch with a point but the decisive goal came from Kelly Smith. Another point soon followed by goal from Mallaidh Breen finished off a great display from all the girls.

They will still have a big say in this league as it reaches its closing stages.
