After losing to St. Colmcilles in the opening round of the U15 Autumn Championship last week this was a statement of intent from this talented group of u15 girls played out in Fr. Tully Park on Sunday evening against their near neighbours Skryne. With a stronger team to pick from the Furze girls were in blistering form and the return from foot injury of Caragh Monaghan was a crucial factor. Starting at Full Forward she scored 3-06 from play and won several frees at the edge of the square linking up play with the superb Anna Wogan Sinead McLarney Tara Traynor Mailladh Breen and Niamh Traynor was a sight that everybody present really enjoyed. Every forward on the scoreboard was a reflection of the standard of some of the scores  and the teamwork evident was infectious.

Ava Jane Ryan in goals was excellent saving at least 3 to 4 goal attempts from Skryne. The full back line of Lauren McCarthy Aine Nangle and Sadhbh McLarney were excellent. A rampaging half back line of Orla Finnegan Aoibhe Monaghan and Charlie Murray dominated in the tackle and were very effective going forward. A super pairing of Lauren Donnelly and Zoe Kirwan in midfield supplied great ball to a  devastating attack and their probing runs from the middle created some fantastic scores and excellent interplay with the potent attack line. The introduction of rising stars Megan Clarke and Robyn Murray only added to the strength of the home side.

The first win of the campaign was emphatic and the girls will have a lot to say in this tough Division 1 competition if they keep this level of performance and teamwork up. Great support shown for the girls and what a great spectacle after the All Ireland Hurling Final  a few hours earlier. The scoreline was very harsh on a good Skryne team who were probably feeling the effects of their Junior Championship win and celebrations  the night before.
