May 5th 2015 Seneschalstown GFC Notes

Our Senior team fell to defeat last Thursday in Round 5 of the A League Division 1 when Donaghmore/Ashbourne proved too strong in Fr. Tully Park. On an evening when the forward line struggled to get going they went under by 3-09 to 1-06.

They will look to kick-start their League campaign on Wednesday May 13th when they take on Simonstown Gaels in Round 6 at 19:30 in Simonstown.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, they play St. Patrick’s in the quarter final of the Feis Cup in Slane at 19:30.

The countdown to our Strictly Come Dancing event is well and truly underway with only ten days remaining until our big extravaganza. The Knightsbrook Hotel will be the venue on May 15th and the final preparations are in full swing for the fifteen couples and the anticipation is really growing.

Tickets are priced at €20 and are available from all dancers and committee members.

Oldcastle were the visitors to Fr. Tully Park last Friday evening in a game where the winners would guarantee themselves a home semi-final. Seneschalstown suffered the loss of two key players through injury in the opening stages of the game but were still tied with a minute of the hour remaining. However Oldcastle hit them with a sucker punch of 1-03 in the space of two minutes to eventually win by 4-13 to 3-10 and seal top spot in the Division for the North Meath side.

Seneschalstown though still managed to secure a home semi-final when St. Patrick’s defeated Na Fianna in a result which secured the Stamullen side a semi-final spot and also ensured Seneschalstown finished second in the table and that home semi-final.

Under 16
The U-16 side travelled to Gibbstown last Tuesday with a much depleted side and found the going extremely tough as they fell to a heavy defeat.

There game this evening, Tuesday, against Trim has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Next Tuesday, May 12th, they then travel to Ballivor to take on their hosts in Round 7.

Under 14
Next up for the side is a game away to Trim on Thursday May 7th in what will be a repeat of the Féile Peile na nÓg Final which was played in February of this year when Seneschalstown won after a tight encounter.

Our U-12 team welcomed St. Fechins from Louth to Fr. Tully Park on Monday evening for a Challenge Game. Images from the game can be viewed on our Facebook page.

Seneschalstown Nursery
Unfortunately due to the monsoon like conditions the U-8’s and U-10’s Go Games Blitz in St. Colmcilles had to be cancelled last Saturday, as did the U-6 coaching.
This weekend the Club Nursery coaching will be in the school in Kentstown where on Saturday morning at 11:00 there will be coaching for the U-6, U-8 and U-10 teams.

Girls Under 16
On Monday evening against a superb Royal Gaels team in Dunshaughlin our U-16 Girls put in a tremendous performance before ultimately going down to their hosts by four points, 1-12 to 2-05 in the League semi-final.
This was an extremely gutsy performance from this very young team and while they didn't manage the victory they certainly enhanced their reputation as a team to watch for the future.
Next up for the girls is the Shield Final on Saturday where they will take on Navan O'Mahonys in Walterstown at 12:00.
Please note a charge of €5 per car will apply for Saturday's final.

Girls Under 14:
The U-14 Girls travel to Drumbaragh this evening to take on St. Michaels in Round 7 of the League. Throw in is at 18:30.

It is a great opportunity for our young players to meet their heroes who play for the county.

Meath Ladies Minors
Congratulations to Róisín Commons and the Meath Ladies Minors who won the Leinster Minor C Championship on Monday when beating Wicklow by 9-13 to 2-06 in Clane.

Meath Ladies U-16
Saturday proved to be an excellent day for Kiah Geraghty and the Meath U-16’s as they overcame the challenge of Laois by 3-08 to 3-13. Following this win Kiah and her teammates have qualified for the Leinster Final which will be played on May 17th when they will face off against Dublin.

Meath Ladies U-14
It was also a very good weekend for the Meath U-14’s as Sorcha Gough and her teammates also qualified for the Leinster Final when they defeated Kildare by 6-10 to 2-09. Sorcha had a superb game and as well as performing her defensive duties with aplomb managed to chip in with two points.

There was another Seneschalstown connection with the team as Graham Geraghty’s daughter Lauren came on and showed her talent when scoring two second half goals.
