LMFM Minor League Division 3 Round 4

Ballivor/Boardsmill 3-09 Seneschalstown 8-09

Following their Round 3 defeat to Drumconrath/Meath Hill the Minors from Seneschalstown burst back into life on Easter Sunday when their baker’s dozen of players recorded an impressive victory over Ballivor/Boardsmill in a game played in Ballivor.

With only thirteen players available for selection this was a superb performance from the Minors who showed a remarkable ability to raise green flags at vital moments of the game.

On the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising they burst into an early lead and never looked like surrendering it as they moved into a 4-07 to 1-02 lead by half time. With Louis Healy mounting the defensive barricades in a two-man full back line and Brian Maguire along with new player Shane McGeer ambushing the home teams forwards any time they looked to get into threatening positions this was an excellent performance from the Seneschalstown rear-guard while up front Cathal Finnegan showed a sniper’s instinct as he fired 3-03 in the opening thirty minutes.

With a solid lead built up Seneschalstown sought to consolidate their position in the second half but to their credit the home side managed to do some damage with their attacks and shot 2-07 only for the Seneschalstown gun slingers to continue their assault on the Ballivor/Boardsmill goals and on a day when the green Irish Republic flag was flown over the GPO their forwards seemed only to want to raise green flags of their own as they added a further 4-02 to their tally.

On a day when all the team rose to the occasion Seneschalstown were best served by Shane McGeer, Louis Healy, Robert Wogan and Cathal Finnegan.

Seneschalstown: Keith Waters, Eoin O’Reilly, Louis Healy, Richie McKeown, Brian Maguire, Shane McGeer, Robert Wogan (0-01), Daire Finnegan (1-00), Alan Mulvany (2-01), Dylan Keating (0-02), Joseph Moore (1-00), Cathal Finnegan (3-03), Eoin Finnegan (1-02).
