October 15th 2015 Seneschalstown GFC Notes

U-21
Progression to the quarter final stage of the Coolrite Refrigeration U-21 Championship was secured on Sunday when Gaeil Colmcille were overcome by 1-10 to 0-12 following a tough encounter in Simonstown.

Boosted by an early Daire Geraghty goal they went 1-02 to 0-00 ahead but faded out of the match thereafter as Gaeil Colmcille drew level at 1-03 to 0-06 at the interval. The second half was nip and tuck and the Kells side were a point ahead with the hour almost up. Niall Hickey managed to equalise and then in the third minute of injury time Ross Howard got inside the corner back and fired over the winning point.

Next up is a quarter final against Skryne with fixture details yet to be confirmed.

Minor
Progression to the LMFM Minor Division 3 Championship Final was secured last Friday night when our Minors defeated North Meath Gaels by 3-11 to 0-07. Boosted by first half goals from Cathal Finnegan and Ryan O’Dowd (2) they surged into a handosome lead at half time and did enough in the second half to maintain a comfortable lead.

This victory leaves them in the Final where they will renew acquaintances with Duleek/Bellewstown. The sides have met twice this year with both having recorded a win apiece. Duleek/Bellewstown won out in the opening round of the League while Seneschalstown won the opeing round of the Championship.

After these two games there is just a point between them on the aggregate scoreline with the Duleek/Bellewstown outfit leading by 35 points to 34.

This is guaranteed to be another stiff test for our side and they will need excellent performances from al the panel to overcome the side in green and gold.

Throw in is at 15:00 in Páirc Tailteann and no doubt a large Seneschalstown following will once more descent upon the county grounds to support their team as we look to bring home a third Championship to Fr. Tully Park in six weeks.

Meath Ladies U-12’s
Congratulations to Anna Wogan and Zoe Kirwan who collected their medals won during the year with the Meath U-12’s last Saturday at their end of year presentation.

The presentation was made even more special for Anna who deservedly picked up the Most Improved Player Award.

Two great talents with bright futures ahead for both club and county.

Pitch Development
For many years now the club has been in need of a second playing pitch to cater for the large numbers of players we have lining out each year.

In total we have 24 sides between Men's, Ladies and Juvenile which puts huge pressure on our current facilities.

This year we have been lucky to procure land adjacent to our current premises on which we will be developing an all-weather sand based floodlit pitch along with using some of the land we already own.

The total cost of this development will be €350,000 and to pay for this we are going to be embarking on a major fundraising drive.

Representatives from the club are currently calling to each house in the parish explaining why this pitch is needed and how people can help with our fundraising drive.

This new pitch will be a much needed addition to our facilities and will result in us having one of the finest playing pitches in the country.

Lotto
The numbers drawn in this week’s Lotto were 11, 16, 21 and 23. There was no winner of the jackpot of €9,400 which means next week’s jackpot will be worth €9,500. The 5 by €25 winners were Sheila Clarke, Stephen Mooney, Aine Clarke, John McCarthy, Lorraine Donnelly and Liz Sheridan.

Tickets for the Lotto are €2 or 3 for €5. They can be purchased from committee members, Lotto sellers, local shops or you can also play online at http://www.helpourclub.ie/localhome.asp?
