Teach na Teamhrach Meath JFC Group C Round 4

Seneschalstown 1-08 Navan O’Mahonys 1-08

The concession of a last minute goal proved to be the sucker punch which scuppered Seneschalstown’s hopes of a third victory in this year’s Teach na Teamhrach Meath JFC in Rathkenny on Wednesday evening. In a game which was scrappy throughout with free-flowing football not too plentiful, Seneschalstown looked to have done just about enough when opening up a three point lead with time almost up but O’Mahonys summoned up one last goal chance which beat Robert Ruddy who had enjoyed another solid outing.

In a game which won’t live long in the memory, O’Mahony’s led by 0-05 to 0-02 at half time as Seneschalstown struggled for fluency in attack as they played against the elements, into the breeze and up the hill on Rathkenny’s pitch. The two James’, Meade and Conlon were the two forwards who scored in the half although Ross Howard did have an apparent goal not awarded with the umpire deeming the ball hadn’t crossed the line. The look of relief on the goalkeeper suggested otherwise however.

It took Seneschalstown a few moments to get going in the second half but by the 40th minute they had the gap reduced to a point thanks to a brace of points from James Meade along with a sixty metre free from the boot of Stephen Finnegan. Next came what was an excellently taken goal from Seneschalstown’s Ross Howard who made no mistake as he let fly to score a brilliant goal.

Navan O’Mahony’s never let that lead build up past three points despite half time substitute landing three points in the closing quarter and their efforts at staying in touch came to fruition when with time almost up they conjured up the equalising goal.

Best for Seneschalstown were Stephen Finnegan and Shane Clarke while Robert Ruddy had an impressive showing in goals.
