Donaghmore/Ashbourne 6-10 Seneschalstown 5-07.

Seneschalstown came up short in their first game of the Under 14 Football Cup against Donaghmore/Ashbourne on Wednesday evening.

Seneschalstown started slowly and were four points down after ten minutes. Ross Mullen opened Seneschalstown’s account when finishing low to the Asbourne net. Dylan Keating pointed a free shortly afterwards to level up matters at 1-01 0-04. The hosts netted soon after to regain the lead but Mullen pointed from play before Alan Mulvany split the posts with a free.

Then from the move of the half Seneschalstown won a penalty after a move involving Keating, Mulvany, Cathal Hickey and Mullen, who was fouled. Keating dispatched it and the visitors led by two. Asbourne hit the last point of the half to leave a point in it at the break.

Half-Time: Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-05 Seneschalstown 2-03.

Ashbourne started the second half like a steam train and 3-03 in fourteen minutes. But credit where credit is due as Seneschalstown never gave up. Keating hit 1-o1 before Mulvany scored an excellent long range point. However Ashbourne struck for another goal but Joseph Moore raised a white flag along with a Keating free either side of another Mullen goal.

Ashbourne hit another 1-01 in injury time but Seneschalstown ended the game with a Moore goal but came up just short in what was an excellent battling display.
