Walterstown 13-09 Seneschalstown 5-05

Seneschalstown came up well short in their bid to reach the Division 1 Shield final at the hands of Walterstown on Saturday. Walterstown were stronger all over the pitch as they displayed a powerful performance to easily defeat their local rivals.

It was Seneschalstown however, who opened the scoring as Adam O’Mara gave them a dream start after finding the net after a quick break from defence after only 50 seconds. Walterstown swiftly responded with a goal a minute later. The visitors opened up a two point lead again as Alan Mulvany tapped over a free and O’Mara added a point to his goal. That was as good as it got as Walterstown led from the sixth minute to the end.

A quick-fire brace of goals put them in the driving seat. They also hit two points before Dylan Keating pointed for Seneschalstown. However there was no let off between there and half time as they registered another 2-02. Seneschalstown’s sole response was a Jason Lyons goal who punched to the net after a pass from O’Mara.

Half-Time: Seneschalstown 2-03 Walterstown 5-04.

The visitors fared no better in the second period as the hosts ran riot hitting another 8 goals as well as 5 points. Their first major arrived after less than a minute which was followed up by a point. O’Mara netted for a second time but there was no stopping the hosts as they hit another 1-01.

Seneschalstown’s best spell of the half came as they hit 2-01 in 6 minutes. Keating raised a green flag after a mazy run and Mulvany found the net after his point attempt dropped short. Substitute Cillian Gormley also landed a fine point from a tight angle after 48 minutes. But unfortunately for the visitors, Walterstown went on another scoring spree adding four goals and two points in seven minutes. Joseph Moores goal attempt went just over and as Seneschalstown went forward to reduce the deficit, Walterstown hit 3-01 in injury time.

Thirteen goals was probably a bit harsh on the visitors who had one of those days where nothing went right for them. However Walterstown were fully deserving winners and advance to a final meeting with Dunshaughlin.
