Walterstown 2-8 Seneschalstown 1-11

When these two sides met in the opening round of the league last year Seneschalstown registered six goals to coast to an easy win, but they couldn`t repeat that show in their A FL Div 1 opener on Sunday and they needed a late Bryan Clarke free to earn a draw.

Clarke`s superb accuracy from long-range frees was a feature of Seneschalstown`s SFC victory in 2007 and it was his 55-metre free that secured the draw against a vastly improved Walterstown outfit.

Seneschalstown started well with Brian Sheridan in good form, but Walterstown rallied with a goal to ensure a 1-7 to 0-6 lead. After the resumption points from Brian Sheridan (two), Damien Sheridan and a goal from Bryan Clarke put Seneschalstown into a 1-9 to 1-7 lead. Walterstown regained the initiative with their second goal and when Seneschalstown had a `goal` disallowed it seemed destined to be Walterstown`s day. However, Mark Carey reduced the deficit to a point before Bryan Clarke`s free rescued the situation. Karl Reynolds with a superb second half goal, Alan Crosbie and Ronan Barry were best for Walterstown.
