Meath Senior Feis Cup 2008 Final

Seneschalstown 2-5 Dunboyne 4-7

A missed penalty with 10 minutes remaining proved costly for the homeside in this 2008 Feis Cup final played at Seneschalstown on St. Patricks day. The sides were level at 2-5 apiece when Louise Byrne stepped up to take a penalty following a foul on Emma Harris however the Dunboyne keeper denied the hosts and Dunboyne added 2-2 in the final minutes to secure victory.

Dunboyne raced into an early lead with Fiona O’ Neill causing problems for the Seneschalstown defence however the switch of Seneschalstowns Aodhnait McAdam onto the County player curtailed her scoring threat. Goals from Linda Quinn and Byrne in the opening half kept the Yellow Furze side in contention while good defending from Elaine Byrne, Dearbhla O’ Carroll and Deborah Dillon denied the visitors several scoring opportunities. Playing against a strong wind, Seneschalstown struggled to hit the target despite enjoying alot of possession however Orla Sheridan added two points to leave the home side behind by two points at the interval (Half-time 2-4 to 2-2 to Dunboyne).

Two points from Harris inside the third quarter reduced the deficit before Byrne and a Dunboyne subsitute exchanged points to leave the sides level and with Seneschalstown winning the stakes in both defence and midfield, it appeared the 2008 Senior champions were on course for victory. However the missed penalty proved to be a turning point with Dunboyne capitalising and finishing strongly in the final minutes. Despite fielding without several current and former county players who were ineligible for this competition, Seneschalstown produced a great team performance with Anita McCluskey, Elaine & Deborah Dillon, O’ Carroll, Mc Adam, Aoife Sheridan and Linda Quinn best for the home side.
