2005 Senior Championship winners Seneschalstown produced a strong second half performance to overcome league champions Dunboyne in the first round tie played at Seneschalstown on Sunday.
The Yellow furze side started brightly with Gillian Bennett and Adele Carolan to the fore, however Dunboyne responded with Aoife Thompson leading the way to leave her side in arrears by the minimum margin at the interval. Caroline Mooney produced a number of fine saves in the opening half to leave Seneschalstown 0-5 to 0-4 ahead at the break.
Edel McGrane and Mary Sheridan dominated the midfield exchanges in the third quarter to increase the home sides lead and both combined with Bennett to produce a hat-trick of goals. Louise McKeever was outstanding at centreback while she was well supported by Philomena Sheridan and Louise Byrne in defence.
Further points from Carolan, Orla Sheridan and Eimear O’ Carroll laid the platform for a comprehensive win for the Yellow Furze outfit. Best for Seneschalstown were Mooney, McKeever, McGrane, Carolan, Bennett and Mary Sheridan.
