Meath Senior League Div1 Final

Seneschalstown 1-18 Blackhall Gaels 2-2

Seneschalstown got their season back on track and got back to their winning ways with a comprehensive victory over last year’s beaten county finalists Blackhall Gaels in Kilcloon on Sunday evening. The conditions underfoot were very testing, but given this, both teams but up a great display of flowing football.

Seneschalstown opened the score sheet with a Grainne Nulty point, this was quickly answered by a goal from Blackhall Gaels, but from this point Seneschalstown got to grips with the game and forwards like Eimear O’Carroll, Stephanie Byrne and Siobhan Sheridan, caused a lot of trouble for the Blackhall defence.

In midfield, there was a tremendous battle between Nulty and former inter county star Jane Burke, however Nulty was on target 3 times from play and twice from frees. Nulty was well aided by the hard working Edel McGrane who seemed totally at home in the conditions! The defence was led by Mena Sheridan at full back and her sister Mary at centre back. Deborah Dillon and Linda Tully had great performances on the wings, with many attacking runs which caused an overlap on the Blackhall defence.

Overall a great team performance by Seneschalstown, as even the substitutes that were introduced stamped their mark on the game. Captain Adele Carolan was missing due to exam commitments but she will be eager to get back into the squad for their next outing which will probably be championship against Dunboyne next Sunday 20 th April. Also Louise McKeever who is currently carrying an injury hopes to be back outfield sooner rather than later.

It was another disappointing league match for Blackhall Ladies. They were missing four of their championship starting team and knew that this was going to be a huge challenge to overcome last years championship title holders. Blackhall started well with a cracking goal from Rebecca Flattery, but this was the only time that Blackhall would take the lead. Seneschelstown took scores from all angles and although BHG’s backs did well, they couldn’t stop the torrent of shots. Helen Murphy and Avril Robinson took fine points for BHG and Sarah Ó Donnell found the net in the second half.
