Seneschalstown earned a place in the Leinster SFC final following a hard fought victory over Kildare Club champions Confey of Leixlip at Seneschalstown on Sunday. Confey overcame Dublin champions and favourites Na Fianna in the quarter-final a week previous and had strong hopes of capitalising on that win going into the semi-final however the home side dug deep to reach their 2nd Leinster final in 4 years. (last beaten in lein final by Ballyboden by a point in 2006).

Aided by a strong breeze Seneschalstown started brightly in the opening half with Siobhan and Mary Sheridan dominating the midfield exchanges and the home sides use of the long ball into County star Grainne Nulty proved very effective with Nulty accounting for 1-3 of her sides first half-tally, with an outstanding goal from inside the right end line and an impressive ’45 aided by the breeze. further points from Eimear O’ Carroll, Roisin Nulty and the athletic Fiona Mahon (3) laid the platform for a 1-5 to 0-2 lead by the end of the first quarter however an unfortunate shoulder injury to the Confey wing forward delayed the game for a period until the player was removed by ambulance. Following this break in play, Confey dominated the 2nd quarter and curtailed the threat of Nulty by putting an extra defender in front of the Seneschalstown full forward while Kildare players Aisling Jennings (3) and full forward Deirdre Gately (3) led the fray in the scoring charts and caused problems for the Seneschalstown defence leaving the home side ahead by 1-08 to 0-7 at the interval.

Seneschalstown upped their workrate in the 2nd half with Louise McKeever, Edel McGrane, Deborah Dillon and subsitute Aodnaid McAdam excelling in defence while Mary Sheridan, Mahon and Orla Sheridan worked hard for possession around midfield. Louise Byrne pulled off a number of fine saves to deny the Confey side throughout the 2nd half. Seneschalstown struggled to score against the stiff breeze and were guilty of a number of wides and dropping the ball into the goalies hands with the only two second half scores coming from Mahon and O’ Carroll. Seneschalstown were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the finla quarter when Aoife Sheridan was hauled to the ground. Convey continued to threaten and closed the gap to the minimum with 3 minutes remaining however a late point from O’ Carroll provided a two point victory for the Yellow Furze side and a place in the Leinster final in 2 weeks time.

The other semi final between Clonee (Wexford) and Timahoe (Laois) ended in a draw after extra time
