Meath Senior Club Championship S/F

Seneschalstown 3-21 Dunboyne 1-4

Seneschalstown booked their place in the Senior Ladies county final with an impressive win against Dunboyne in Dunore on Friday evening. Seneschalstown opened the scoring with a pointed free by the excellent Fiona Mahon however Dunboyne responded immediately with a well taken goal by Laura Dunne & Dunboyne then tagged on a further two points to take an early lead. However after missing some early chances the defending champions found their rhythm, led by the outstanding Grainne Nulty and full forward Siobhan Sheridan. Sheridan bagged herself three well taken first half goals giving the defending champions a 3-7 to 1-2 half time lead.

Throughout the game there were some great battles taking place along with some brilliant displays from many Seneschalstown individuals, most notably Grainne Nulty and Mary Sheridan in midfield and Fiona Mahon on the forty. Dunboyne found it difficult to contend with the height and strength of the Seneschalstown midfield duo and the fitness and accuracy of Mahon. However, it wasn’t just a night for individuals, it was very much a team performance by the Furze side and all over the pitch they dominated, with Louise McKeever, Roisin Nulty, Mena Sheridan and Debbie Dillon doing well in defence and Orla Sheridan, Siobhan Sheridan and Emma Harris putting in a great display in attack.

Wing forward Eimear O’Carroll worked tirelessly throughtout the game and it was this work ethic throughout the team that led to such a high score at the end of the game. Also throughout the game wing forward for Dunboyne Julie Kavanagh worked hard to try get her team back in contention and was supported well by Fiona Mernagh, but Seneschalstown looked very hungry for this victory and will be eager to go a step further and add another Championship title to their honours. They will play St Ultans who convincingly beat Boardsmill in the other semi final that was held on Saturday. The preliminary fixture for the county final is September 14th.
