Trim on top as Seneschalstown implode
Trim bolstered their chances of reaching the knockout stages of this years SFC by staging a second half scoring surge to overhaul Seneschalstown (2-7 to 0-9) at Dunshaughlin on Sunday afternoon.

With both sides having secured one win from their previous two outings in Group C, this tie was crucial in deciding who would stake an early claim for a last eight berth and Trim took full advantage of Seneschalstown second half collapse to run out four-point winners.

With three minutes of the second half played it looked as though Seneschalstown might just be developing into serious Keegan Cup contenders as they strode confidently into a 0-9 to 0-3 advantage but they failed to score for the remaining 27 minutes of the tie as their challenge imploded.

Trim were a different side in the second half to the one that was completely outplayed prior to the change of ends and Paul Gilsenan began their retrieval mission in the 34th minute when he confidently tucked away a penalty after Neil Heffernan had been hauled to the ground by Andrew Collins.

That score reduced the deficit to 1-3 to 0-9 and further scores from Michael Lowther (two) and Paul Flanagan had them back on level terms entering the final quarter.

Mark McCormack inched Trim in front for the first time in the 50th minute but it was Heffernan who ensured the spoils went the town side’s way as he gathered a through ball from Lowther before delicately placing the ball low past the advancing David Lyons to stretch his side into a four-point advantage.

Such an outcome couldn’t have looked any further away at the break as Seneschalstown turned in an impressive opening period display and their 0-7 to 0-3 interval lead was an indication of their superiority.

Brian Sheridan was Seneschalstown’s main talisman during that spell as he sent over five points and although four of those efforts came from frees, his accuracy from placed balls was one of the features of a first half dominated by the side in blue and yellow.

But they were unable to keep up that relentless pace and Trim tightened up their defence after the resumption with Darren Fay, Robert Brennan and Ronan Fitzsimons in particular catching the eye.
