Meath Ladies Round 5 Autumn League U-13 Division 2

Summerhill 2-00 Seneschalstown 6-12

On a Sunday evening fixture when most of us including mentors, parents and players would have liked to settle down on the couch preparing to enjoy the World Cup clash of Ireland v Italy these girls took to the field in Summerhill on a bitterly cool evening – the Furze Girls continued on their journey of remaining unbeaten in this Division in the Autumn league with another dominant and determined display.

From our Goalie Ava Jane Ryan who went on to score 2-01 in the second half, Zoe Ryan who defended with great enthusiasm, Aine Nangle who found herself further up the pitch than usual but put in her usual strong performance, the half back line of Lauren McCarthy (0-01) who worked tirelessly and was rewarded with a fantastic point, Aoibhe Monaghan (0-01) who was a very busy defender marking Summerhills finest forward and kept her quiet and who managed a magnificent point also, to Zoe Kirwan who didn’t put a foot wrong and played with great strength the Seneschalstown rearguard is proving a very effective unit in this league conceding very little all year.

Midfielders Caragh Monaghan who fought tenaciously as ever contributing 1-01 before getting injured just at the stroke of half time and Lauren Donnelly (0-01) running deep at the heart of Summerhill and causing panic and also be rewarded with a fine point, this midfield partnership is getting stronger and stronger.

In the centre of attack the force of Mailladh Breen (0-02) has been having a huge season for the Furze Girls with huge returns from every game was a little bit quieter on the scoreboard today but linked up fantastically with her half forwards Anna Wogan (0-02) who is a real dynamo in the furze attack and Orla Finnegan (3-02) who is clearly following in her brothers footsteps, a nippy and courageous player who was in devastating form. The inside line of Sinead McLarney and Emily Navagh Burke created lots of chances and panic for the Summerhill Girls. Sinead stepped into goals for the second half to release Ava Jane Ryan (2-01) and she had an immediate impact. Younger sister Sadhbh McLarney has been a revelation this year, a versatile player comfortable in any position sand he replaced C Monaghan (inj) and coped with everything admirably. Ella Kilfeather created lots of chances and her movement into space helped numerous scores.

The girls march on undefeated after five games but with the toughest two teams remaining Donaghmore Ashbourne and St. Colmcilles remaining they know they cannot take anything for granted. Their next match is Next Sunday morning October 11th against Donaghmore/Ashbourne 11.30am in Fr. Tully Park.
