Played on a beautiful warm sunny even both teams served up an fine contest with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions. The home team had the best of the early exchanges and had 2 points on the board inside three minutes. Emer Smith oprened the Seneschalstown girls account with a point but by the 9th minutes the home team had increased the lead to 3 points. In the 10th minute Adelle Carolan Flynn fisted over her first point after been denied a goal and Anna Wogan cut the deficit to single point on the quarter hour. The combination outfit increased their advantage again but the Seneschalstown rearguard of Grainne Gordon, Cathy Ann Cowley, Orla McMahon, Catherine Smyth. Orla Finnegan and captain for the night Leah Ryan had settled down after early pressure and were making it harder for home them to get scores. And with netminder Dearbhla Clarke showing great handling and fine kicking out, the Furze girls thru Smyth and Carloan equalised by the 21 minute. Smyth then had the eventual winners in front for the first time and this adavantage was incresed when midfielder Crace Cahalane rceycled possesion to Aoife Mulvany who did the necessary to raise another white flag in the 26th minute. However the home team rallied and equalised by the time Sarah Stanley blew the short whistle with the score at 0-7 apiece. Indeed it’s not ofen a ref gets a bit of praise but Stanley, whenever an appropriate oportunity arose, called for water breaks given the warm evening we were enjoying.
The second half started with one switch on the Seneschalstown team with Ava Jane Ryan coming into the fray at corner forward. Kelly Smith open the second half scoring with a fine point in the 31st minute and midfielder Zoe Kirwan increased the visitors lead two minutes later. The home team cut the advantage to the minimum before they were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute which was dispatched low to Clarkes left despite her best efforts. Immediately the Furze girls went about cutting the deficit and Smith landed a well worked point in the 39th minute and a minute later Wogan dispatched the ball to the bottom corner of the net to put the Seneschalstown girls back in front. But the home team came roaring back and on the three-quarter hour mark a fine shot through a crowd of players nestled in the bottom corner of the Seneschalstown net to put the home team back in front and this advantage was icreased to 3 points with two futher point by the 48th minute and Clarke also made two vital saves around this time as well. The visitors had now introduced Eve Loughran and Smith again cut the deficit to two. The home team incresed the advantage out to 3 again with less than 10 minutes to go but the proved to be their last score as Smith again cut the deficit. The crucial score arrived with 5 minutes to go when after a goal mouth scramble, Kirwan forced the ball over the line to the great joy of the Seneschalstown contingent and fron the resultant kickout Wogan increased the winners advantage. With less than 3 minutes to go Shirley Quinn got in on the scoring act with a fine point which was merited after her fine display all through the game and meant that all 6 starting forwards contributed to the score sheet before Wogan closed out the scoring with less than 2 minutes remaining. Ava Jane Ryan then saw her free from out on the left strike the post and from the resultant clearance the home team went on the attack but full back Cowley excuted a brilliant tackle and was foulded subsequently. Shrotly afterwards the ref sounded the final whistle on a deserved win for the Furze girls.
