Seneschalstown completed the group stages of the U-12 Division 2 Championship with a 100% record after defeating Ballivor in damp conditions in Fr. Tully Park on Tuesday evening.

Seneschalstown completed the group stages of the U-12 Division 2 Championship with a 100% record after defeating Ballivor in damp conditions in Fr. Tully Park on Tuesday evening.
Megan Clarke opened the scoring in the first minutes with a point from play with was followed in the second minute with a point from Claire Finnegan also from play. The Furze girls were well on top and passing the ball very well and Charlie Murray increased the lead with another point from play in the fifth minute. Two minutes later Nicola Mongey opened her account with a point from play before Robyn Murray added another point on eight minutes. Murray then got the Furze girls goal with a low drive to the net in the eleventh minute to put the home team in the driving seat. Abbey Hewitt then got on the scoreboard from play after a good team move in the fourteenth minute and Clarke closed the scoring with a point from play two minutes later to leave the HT score at 1-07 to 0-00.
The second half started with some positional switches with Clarke reverting to fullback and Mongey going to the middle of the field from her forward berth. Within three minutes of the resumption Hewitt added to her account with a point from play. To Ballivor’s credit they kept battling away and were rewarded with a goal and a point midway through the second half. Charlie Murray then added to her account with a point but the visitors replied with a point of the own. Mongey had the last say on the scoreboard with a superb solo effort from play to ensure the 100% record in the group.
Once again the strength of the squad was evident as was the case in the last away game in Summerhill where several regulars were absent but players slotted in to positions and the performance of the team didn’t suffer.
The team has reaped the rewards for giving their all in games, excellent attendance at training and prepared to play wherever they are asked to play.
With Ali Clarke, Kerri Laverty and Carley Lynch sharing Goalkeeping duties as well as playing outfield, Sophie Sharpe making her first appearance of the season after injury and Ava Fitzsimons making her playing debut tonight. Regular defenders Molly Keating, Meadhbh Hickey, Katie McDonnell and Amy Kennedy along with a combination The Murray Twins Robyn and Charlie, Tara Traynor and Megan Clarke form a strong defence and midfield.
The forward division has put up some good scores with Nicola Mongey leading the way in the scoring stakes ably assisted by Abbey Hewitt, Kellie Stafford, Claire Finnegan, Niamh Mulvany, Orla Lynch, Lauren McGuirk, Laura Masterson, Lauren Lynch and Holly Knowles.
The efforts have secured a home semi-final and the team await the final table to see who the opposition will be.
