Royal Gaels 3-5 Seneschalstown 3-7
The proverbial game of two halves materialised in the Ladies Div 5 Rd 7 clash between Royal Gaels and Seneschalstown played in Dunshaughlin.
Seven minutes into the second period the home team had a commanding 2-5 to 0-1 lead and while the Furze girls were getting chances the Royal Gaels netminder was equal to anything that came her way. However from then to the finish the Furze girls put in a superb performance to run out winnners. A sloitary point from Kelly Smith in the first half was all the eventual winners could muster up but it wasn’t for the want of trying a quite a number of wides were posted in that opening half and the home team led 2-4 to 0-1 at the break.
On the resumption a number of positional changes wre made by the Seneschalstown but the home team extended their lead but Once Anna Wogan opened her account the Furze gilrs found their shooting boots. Mallaidh Breen cut the defificit futher and soon afterwards Shauna Fitzgerald opened her account with a point from play. Just approaching the midway point in the half Fitzgerald got the Furze girls opening goal when she weaved her way thru the home defence before firing home. And within 3 minutes Wogan then got in on the goal scoring act as she dispatched the ball to the Gaels net with a pile driver into the top corner and incredibly the eventual winner went in front for the first time when Wogan got her second goal soon afterwards. However the home team were not about to lie down and got back in front with their third goal as time ticked into the final 10 minutes. A fine interception by Leah Ryan lead to the ball being transfered thru several players before Orla Garry kicked a fine equalising score from the right. Wogan had the final say on the score board as she tagged on 2 late points to give the Seneschalstown girls top spot after the group stages of the league.
The same two teams will contest the League final on a date and venue to be decided and another exciting game is on the cards. With the head to head at one all this year and at least one more meeting between the sides before the season ends, both sides look forward to next installment.
