Certain names become synonymous with clubs and in our case one of those names would be that of Fr. Seamus Mulvany. Fr. Mulvany arrived to the parish on Saturday September 13th 1969 and on the following day saw our Senior side in action as they had a runaway victory over Oldcastle in the Feis Cup at Kildalkey.
Whatever he witnessed on that Sunday he resolved to get involved with the club and he soon guided a Juvenile side to win the East Meath Juvenile League when they caused a surprise by beating a very fancied Duleek outfit in the final.
Fr. Seamus quickly also became ingrained in the Senior set up and in 1972 he was the team trainer when they toppled Navan O’Mahonys after a replay to win the clubs first ever Senior Football Championship. Just two days later though he was involved in a very serious car accident which took him a long time to recover from. But thankfully his recovery allowed him to get back involved with the team once more. Not merely content with this Fr. Mulvany then got centrally involved in the construction of our clubhouse and each night club members were set tasks by him to get done as part of the build.
When it came to the Official Opening of our new clubhouse and pitch Fr. Mulvany along with Connor Brennan, Billy Boland and Pat Carter, the three of whom have since sadly passed on, organised the big day which had the Challenge game between the mighty Kerry and Meath as its centrepiece. Of course one of the highlights of the Official Opening was to see the legendary Mick O’Connell play in Fr. Tully Park. It was a great day for Seneschalstown and indeed for the parish of Yellow Furze and Kentstown as a whole.
Many thanks to Fr. Seamus for all the work he carried out in the club and parish in the time he spent here, it’s safe to say he left a positive legacy behind when he moved on to his next parish. We would like to offer up our congratulations on this your Golden Jubilee as a priest of the Diocese. Enjoy the celebrations today.
