May 6th 2014 Seneschalstown GFC Notes

Senior Ladies: The Senior Ladies hosted Navan O’Mahonys last Thursday in the latest round of the Meath League and continued on their winning streak of recent weeks with an eight point victory.

Played at Fr Tully park the visitors with the aid of a strong breeze broke through the home defence twice, netting on both occasions to give the town team the lead.

Although the score board wasn’t in the ladies favour early on this didn’t deter them from running the ball from deep with some great moves originating from the full back line and finishing up with plenty of opportunities for the forwards to work with.

Work rate, pace and possession was key on the night with all players showing this in abundance and in the second half this would prove the difference between the two sides.

Not letting up on this work ethic the ladies continued to move the ball at speed in the second half, notching up an impressive 2-09 to leave the winner of this encounter in no doubt.

The real mark of a team is when their whole squad is tested and today was no exception, playing more of the up and coming talented U-16’s shows the future of ladies football at the club is very healthy and moving in the right direction.

Scorers: Kiah Geraghty 2-01, Mary Sheridan 1-03, Lauren Kelleher 0-03, Stacey Grimes 0-03, Louise Coyle 0-02, Mena Sheridan 0-01, Orla Sheridan 0-01and Síabhra Reilly 0-01.

Senior: Last Friday the team played Donaghmore Ashbourne in Round 5 of the A League Division 1. In a game which was brought forward by twenty four hours they lost out by two points, 1-09 to 0-10. This leaves them in tenth position in the table. In Round 6 they will have a home game against Simonstown.

On Wednesday evening they face the unbeaten Curraha in Round 5 of the B League Division 5. Curraha are currently in second place in the table, ahead of us on score difference so a victory would leave the Junior D team in an excellent position after five rounds following last year’s promotion from Division 6.
