Senior Ladies: The Senior Ladies travelled to Leixlip last Thursday to play their hosts in Round 2 of the Leinster League. Playing away from home the ladies notched up their first win of this years league campaign with a 3 point victory over Leixlip.
The home side started the better and soon had a couple of scores registered on the scoreboard before the ladies could settle into the game.
Played in perfect conditions both teams gave a great example of fast flowing football with plenty of action from both set of players. The Furze girls finished the half stronger and managed to claw back their opponents lead to level the game at half time 0-06 a piece.
The second half started at the same pace as the first half finished with more of the same from both teams. The ladies adopted a more aggressive approach to the game and started to string together some decent moves none more so than the play that setup Louise Coyles first goal. A sublime pass from Ashing Taffe picked out Coyle who doesn’t miss many from point blank range.
The nature of this game meant all players needed to dig deep when it counted with many showing that extra bit of determination when it was needed. Louise Coyle added another goal soon after which helped the girls settle and brought her tally to 2-04 for the night.
As expected Leixlip didn’t hold back and towards the end threatened reduce the lead with some clinical scoring of their own, however the back line stood their ground and controlled the game in the end to hold out for the victory.
Scorers: Louise Coyle 2-04, Aisling Taaffe 0-01, Siabhra Reilly 0-01, Orla Sheridan 0-01, Steph Byrne 0-01, Lauren Kelleher 0-01
