Sat 23rd Apr Blackhall Gaels 0-8 Seneschalstown 0-8
No Joe Sheridan and still no Graham Geraghty but Seneschalstown were full value for a share of the spoils with defending champions Blackhall Gaels at Skryne on Saturday evening, 24th April.
Without their two stars many would have predicted possible relegation for Seneschalstown. However, 3 points from four against stiff opposition (Dunderry were first round opponents) sets the Furze up nicely for the long summer ahead.

Who also would have predicted that the defending champions would struggle in such a fashion. One local commentator described Blackhall as ‘having a death wish’ and the manner of their casual play over the hour demonstrated the accuracy of this quote.
The performance of the 2003 kingpins bordered on the scary at times and it took a Mark Ferris pointed free deep into injury time (after 34 minutes to be precise) to gain that first point on the table. It followed a period of sustained pressure during which Blackhall registered a series of wides although one from Tadgh Brosnan looked like it went between the posts. Blackhall also operated with 14 men for that vital run in after Paul Nestor received his marching orders.
Seneschalstown shot out of the traps and scores from G Conlon, B Clarke and R Ruddy had them 3 points up with only 8 minutes on the clock. The Gaels steadied somewhat and by the interval had reduced the margin, if only marginally to 0-5 against 0-3.
Indeed the men from the fringes of Kilcock turned this 2 points deficit around to a similar advantage, 0-7 to 0-5. Without free scoring Sheridan Seneschalstown appeared there for the taking but no advantage was pressed home. Ciaran Macken equalised at 0-7 apiece and then Conlon gave his side the lead before that late Blackhall surge and Ferris’ face saving point.
