A first ACFL Division 1A defeat was inflicted upon Seneschalstown as Skryne overcame a slow start to take both points at Fr McManus Park.
Seneschalstown looked like they were going to win easily against Skryne on Sunday evening at Fr McManus Park, after 20 minutes the home team had only registered one score compared to Seneschalstown’s five points couresty 2 points each from Bryan Clarke and Brian Sheridan and a point from Stephen Sheridan. But Skryne came back into the game with three points in as many minutes from Mick O’Dowd, Brian Byrne and Trevor Giles. Seneschalstown responded with 2 more points from play from Brian Sheridan and Shane Clarke.
Brian Smyth scored soon after as he punched the ball into the back of the net and levelled the scores in the 28th minute of the first half, after the ball had rebounded off the Seneschalstown goalie, who had just blocked a shot on target from Aidan Tuite. Seneschalstown managed to put the ball over the bar again thanks to a free from Brian Sheridan before half time to regain their lead and the teams left the pitch at half time with the scores: Skryne 1-4, Seneschalstown 0-8.
Skryne took the lead in the second half, notching up three points before Seneschalstown managed to open their second half score sheet with free outstanding long range frees from greater than 45m from Bryan Clarket. With Trevor Giles on form and scoring four points in the second half, and Mick O’Dowd, Brian Byrne, Brian Smyth and Felim O’Rourke all putting the ball over the bar.
Brian Sheridan added final point for Seneschalstowl on the 26th minute, but Skryne managed to hold onto their lead, beating Seneschalstown by a goal, bringing their league wins to four out of six games played.
