Seneschalstown Claim U16 Summer League Spoils
On a cool evening in Pairc Tailteann Seneschalstown and St. Patrick’s served up a thoroughly enjoyable U16 Summer League Final.
Seneschalstown were the first team to settle and got on the scoreboard after 2 minutes through a well worked point from Robert Wogan.
Within a minute St. pats had struck the front courtesy of a goal following some sloppy defending from the boys in blue and yellow.
The next 10 minutes were evenly shared with both sides notching a point, Seneschalstowns effort coming from the boot of Robert Wogan once more.
In the 14th and 15th minutes Seneschalstown made their move with goals from Dylan Doyle following an excellent save from the Pat’s goalkeeper and another from Ryan O’Dowd who was set up by Doyle who was starting to wreak havoc at full forward.
St. Pat’s hit back with a point in the 17th minute before Shane Mulvany got onto the scoreboard with a point.
Seneschalstown got motoring at this point and outscored St. Pat’s by 1-03 to 0-01 before the half time interval. Eoin Finnegan grabbed 2 points during this period with Niall Hickey getting the other, capitalising on a mistake in the Pat’s rearguard to point from 25 metres.
On the stroke of half time Dylan Doyle got our 3rd goal of the half and his second following superb build up play down the terrace side between corner back Brian Maguire and corner forward Wogan. This score left Seneschalstown leading at half time, 3-06 to 1-03.
Facing into the breeze for the second Seneschalstown were first of the mark courtesy of an Eoin Finnegan point after a long ball forward was knocked down into his path by Doyle.
St. Pat’s then had their best spell of the game notching a goal and a point.
Dylan Doyle stemmed the tide with a classy point before St. Pat’s claimed what turned out to be their final score of the game on 44 minutes with a point.
From there to the close of proceedings it was all Seneschalstown, kick started by Doyle finishing off his hat trick when he buried the ball in the back of the net following a magnificent long ball from a 50m free by Adam Carey. From the kick out Niall Hickey struck a fine point which was quickly followed by a point from a free by Eoin Finnegan.
On 55 minutes Ryan O’Dowd grabbed his second goal of the game with a calm finish to the back of the net after being set up by Doyle but this goal owed much to the determination of wing back Colin Walsh who won a ball on the right hand side which he had no right to win before delivering an excellent ball into the square to Doyle.
Eoin Finnegan then notched another which was followed 5 minutes later by a point from Carey which capped what was an excellent performance from the county U16 panelist.
The scoring was wrapped up within a minute courtesy of a very well taken point from Cathal Finnegan.
This was a superb performance with each and every one of the Seneschalstown players performing with distinction. It is fair to say that the performances of full back David Fox who saw of all comers at full back, Niall Hickey who won all around him in the air at midfield, Adam Carey who covered every blade of grass and capped it off with a fine point and Doyle who wreaked havoc on the edge of the square were central to the victory this evening. Hopefully these lads and their teammates will continue to represent the club with distinction in Pairc Tailteann for many years to come.
Credit is also due to the management who had the team excellently prepared for this evening and who have worked tirelessly all year.
