Seamus Connolly Junior B Championship Semi Final Report
Seneschalstown 0-12. Moynalty 0-15
Seneschalstown were knocked out of the Junior B football championship following a three point defeat to Moynalty in Meath Hill. After starting brightly Seneschalstown opened up a 0-04 0-01 lead courtesy of Johnny Glisenan (2), Eamon Sheridan and a wonderful point from the sideline from Niall Lyons. However Moynalty grew into the game and levelled matters on the 25th minute at 0-05 each. Moynalty were soon ahead by two points when the corner back and full back combined to complete a swift move up field. An injury time free from Lyons left the minimum between them at the break – 0-07 0-06.
As the fog descended the ‘town went about the task in the second half in a work like manner and went two points ahead midway through the half following a brace of Lyons frees and brilliant solo effort from the same player from out on the right flank. However an injury that forced Aidan Finnegan to retire disrupted Seneschalstown’s momentum and Moynalty went on to kick the five points without reply to open up a three point lead. Points were swapped from their to the end as Seneschalstown got the deficit down to one just into injury time but Moynalty ran out deserved winners on a 0-15 0-12 scoreline.
Great credit is due to all players and management after a terrific effort throughout the year.
