Under 14 Summer League Group B Round 5
Seneschalstown 17-11 Skryne 4-02
Seneschalstown secured qualification to the semi-finals after an easier than expected win over Skryne on Saturday afternoon.
Alan Mulvany got the visitors off to a flying start with a goal and a point inside 90 seconds. The point came after a pass from Dare Finnegan and the goal after being played in by Dylan Keating. Skryne gradually came into the game drawing level after 5 minutes. Seneschalstown moved Mulvany to midfield and this had a telling effect. He played in Cillian Gormley for his first point 8 minutes in. Keating also pointed after winning the resultant kickout. Keating also scored Seneschalstown’s next two goals in the 9th and the 12th minutes, the second of which was an excellently dispatched penalty following a foul on Daire Finnegan.
Keating and Gormley kept up their good scoring form each with points, both of which were set up by Mulvany. Gormley netted again before Jason Lyons opened his account with Seneschalstown’s fifth goal. The goals continued to flow, this time Keating netting after a great team move involving Gormley, Mulvany and corner back Simon Rooney. Lyons scored his second major after 21 minutes before Sean Carey raised his first white flag. Mulvany and Keating combined again to set up the former for his second goal. Gormley hit a brace of goals before Carey brought the first half scoring to a close with another point.
Half Time: Seneschalstown 10-7 Skryne 1-01
Gormley picked up where he left off in the first half, pointing after a Mulvany pass. Daire Finnegan then ventured forward to find the top corner of the Skryne net after linking up well with Mulvany. Skryne registered two quick goals but Ciaran Mongey responded by kicking the point of the game from the 45′. Mulvany set up Keating for another goal in the 36th minute before Gormley hit his last goal three minutes later. Keating fired over again before Sean Commons scored 1-1 in consecutive attacks.
The hosts scored a fourth goal but wing back Cathal Hickey netted twice and so did Ciaran Mongey who brought the scoring to a close. It was an excellent performance and will do score difference no harm at all.
