Seneschalstown lost out to a stronger Navan O’Mahonys side in Fr. Tully Park on Saturday afternoon.
After opening the scoring courtesy of a Jason Kearney point following a strong Brian Maguire run from midfield before O’Mahonys hit back with a goal. Robert Wogan brought the deficit back to one point when putting the ball over the bar after being placed by Alan Mulvany. Mulvany then pointed before Brian Maguire grabbed a point of his own after flashing the ball over following a goalmouth scramble. Seneschalstown’s good start continued when Cathal Finnegan added his name to the scoresheet with an outstanding point.
Navan O’Mahonys then hit the front once more when getting their second goal before Wogan kicked a free over after a foul on Sean Carey. O’Mahonys then kicked their first point of the match before hitting a purple patch in the last seven minutes of the half when grabbing 4-01 from play to open up a commanding half time lead.
Dylan Keating opened the second half scoring when pointing before another O’Mahonys goal. Keating added to his point when rattling the back of the town sides net following a classy run from Wogan. The boys in blue and white got a goal and a point before a superlative Brian Maguire goal. Wing forward Cillian Gormley then pointed before in the forty seventh minute Seneschalstown conceded another goal.
Dylan Keating and Alan Mulvany got two points in a row for Seneschalstown before Navan O’Mahonys, as they had done in the first half finished off the second very strongly, picking off 2-02 from play before the referee brought proceedings to a close.
The scoreline in this match could have been much closer but the brilliance of the Navan O’Mahonys goalkeeper was a notable factoe of the match as he pulled off a string of top class saves.
