Seneschalstown’s U-14’s played their first round of the U-14 Summer League away to Round Towers in Drumbaragh on Wednesday evening and what a roller coaster of a night it proved to be. Shorn of a number of regulars who were missing due to the end of year ceremonies in Kentstown and Yellow Furze schools this was always going to be a tough assignment and so it proved.

Seneschalstown’s U-14’s played their first round of the U-14 Summer League away to Round Towers in Drumbaragh on Wednesday evening and what a roller coaster of a night it proved to be. Shorn of a number of regulars who were missing due to the end of year ceremonies in Kentstown and Yellow Furze schools this was always going to be a tough assignment and so it proved.
Round Towers started off at lighting pace and before Seneschalstown knew it had scored 2-03 within 5 minutes and it wasn’t until the seventh minute until the defeated Spring League finalists registered their first point through Ross Mullen. Round Towers were maintaining their dominance in every position around the pitch and began to stretch their lead even further with another goal and 4 points while Seneschalstown registered 4 more points from Luke Holohan, Sean Commons, Simon Rooney and Ross Mullen before Simon Rooney popped up with two great goals to bring them back into the game, leaving the away side only 8 points behind at half time with the score line reading Round Towers 3-13 Seneschalstown 2-08.
After the resumption Round Towers started with a bang shooting 1-02 before the Seneschalstown lads even got started. At this point they were 13 points down and it looked like damage limitation at this point but this team never know when they’re beaten and they steadily got a foothold in the game with Luke Holohan, Woodley Nicholson, Alan Carey, Aaron Traynor, Padraig Finegan, Cathal Hickey, Tiernan Keogh, Jamie Kirwan all beginning to win their individual battles and they started to score heavily. Over the course of the last 15 minutes Seneschalstown outscored their hosts by 4-05 to 0-02 and with time up Sean Commons combined with Ross Mullen from a 45 to slot over a point to secure the most unlikely of draws and with it a vital point away from home.
The teamwork and never say die attitude made an impossible position possible for this team and a deserved draw at the end of the day. This late surge leaves the side in a very positive frame of mind as they now set their sights on a weekend in the sunny South East and a trip to Féile.
