This left plenty of open spaces on the field, which Blackwater used very well early on, notching up a quick-fire 2-01. Seneschalstown finally got on the scoreboard when Ryan O’Dowd tapped over a free after he himself was fouled. Another home goal quickly followed which was slightly unfortunate on Seneschalstown as the ball took a nasty ricochet off a defender in blue and into the net. Seneschalstown got their first score from play when Alan Mulvany kicked a superb right footed point from thirty five yards. However, Blackwater continued keeping the scoreboard ticking over with points. The visitor’s final score of the half came from the elder Mulvany sibling, Shane, when he fired over after receiving a pass from Niall Hickey. At half-time, Seneschalstown faced a mammoth task to bring the points back to Fr. Tully Park.
Seneschalstown set about their business early in the second half when Daire Corcoran split the posts from twenty five metres. A Ryan O’Dowd free reduced the deficit further but the Kilmainham\Drumbaragh\Carnaross side got on top again, to their credit kicking some excellent points from distance. Seneschalstown finally found a way through for a major, when Niall Hickey finished to the net after a good run. A David Fox long range free added to the Seneschalstown tally. Blackwater kept ahead, but Seneschalstown were awarded a penalty after Alan Mulvany was tripped by the goalie, hence earning a black card for himself. Ryan O’ Dowd expertly converted the penalty to the bottom corner. A third Seneschalstown goal quickly followed from O’ Dowd after he picked up the pieces from an initially saved shot. However, Seneschalstown could not get close enough and the hosts were worthy winners.
