Meath Ladies U-15 Division 2 Championship Round 2

Seneschalstown 5-18 Walterstown 5-05

Seneschalstown recorded their first win in the Div. 2 Championship with a deserved win over neighbours Walterstown in Sunny Fr. Tully Park.

The foundation for this win was laid in the first eleven minutes when the home team burst out of the blocks and scored 1-05 without reply. Walterstown had the first chance of the game inside the first minute which wasn’t taken and Aoife Lenehan opened the scoring on two minutes with a point from play following good work from Chloe Williams and Shona Loughran. Chrystal Delamere was next to score with a point from play following a good interception from Amy Barter on four minutes and a minute later Loughran open her account from play. Sorcha Gough was next to score with a point from play on six minutes with Delamere and Katie Geraghty setting her up. Geraghty then scored a point from play on eight minutes which was followed up three minutes later with the first goal as Delamere netted after good work from Aoife Mulvany.

Kelly Smith entered the fray on sixteen minutes and two minutes later had the ball in the net following a good move involving Leah Ryan and Aoife Lenehan. Mulvany then got her first point in the nineteenth minute with was immediately followed by another Lenehan point. The Seneschalstown rear-guard of Chloe Williams, Aoife Darby, Leanne Clarke, Barter and Ryan were performing well and although Walterstown scored 1-01 in the twenty first and twenty second minutes they were well on top. Mulvany got her second point on twenty three minutes which was followed up with points in the twenty fifth and twenty seventh minutes by Gough and Delamere respectively before Lenehan bagged the home team’s third goal on twenty eight minutes. There was still time for Loughran, Geraghty and Gough to add to the score sheet before the HT whistle sounded with the home team leading 3-13 to 1-01.

The first score of the second half arrived after only thirty seconds after the whistle when Smith netting again but the Walterstown Girls didn’t lie down and performed well in the second half and scored 1-01 over the next five minutes. Delamere was next on the score sheet for the home team on thirty eight minutes before Gough in the fortieth minute added the fifth goal following a good cross field pass from Delamere who benefitted from Katie Fitzsimons good work in chasing a ball that looked destined to go wide and prevented it from going over the end line before laying off to Delamere. Walterstown tagged on two further goals in the forty first and forty fourth minutes with Loughran adding to her tally in the forty sixth minute. Smith added two further points in the forty eighth and fifty first minutes. Walterstown scored their fifth goal with five minutes remaining before Lenehan had the last say with a point just a minute later.

After last week’s narrow defeat to Summerhill, this team is improving with every game and can look forward to the rest of the campaign with a degree of confidence as the team work is improving each week and scores are coming from a good number of players.
