Piltown was the venue on Saturday evening for the Seneschalstown U-13 girls Round 2, Division 1 match against a strong St. Colmcilles side. Conditions were wet underfoot after the rain that had fallen earlier that day.

Piltown was the venue on Saturday evening for the Seneschalstown U-13 girls Round 2, Division 1 match against a strong St. Colmcilles side. Conditions were wet underfoot after the rain that had fallen earlier that day.
The Cilles Girls got off to a flying start, winning the ball at the throw in and producing a good opening score. Seneschalstown were quick to respond with a well taken point by Anna Wogan from a free. The first half ebbed and flowed with good moves from both sides. Cilles scoring a point and a goal from open play followed by a point from a free kick but the Seneschalstown side kept pushing forward and a lovely move through the midfield linking Anna Wogan with Zoe Kirwan and Nicola Mongey who pointed with her trusty right.
Ally Clarke who had stepped up from the U-11s to man the goals was having a busy time and pulled off a couple of excellent saves which were cleared by Ella Kilfeather and Caoimhe Dunne. Pushing forward and battling for possession Tara Traynor gave a lovely pass into Zoe Kirwan who found the back of the net. Another move through the centre saw Tara Traynor find Anna Wogan who duly slotted the ball over the bar to draw the two sides level. The Cilles girls surged forward scoring a goal and two points before Seneschalstown could reply with a free kick from Anna Wogan after she was fouled. The first half ended with the home side leading by a score of 2-05 to 1-04.
The start of the second half saw Seneschalstown making a few changes with Zoe Ryan coming on for Katie McDonnell and Molly Keating who had been recruited from the U-11’s coming on for Abby Hewitt and Robyn Murray dropping back into the halfback line alongside Charlie Murray and Meadhbh Hickey to help settle the defence.
The Cilles side were first to score finding the back of the net but the Seneschalstown Girls kept battling and after Molly Keating won a free, Anna Wogan’s kick found the back of the net. Seneschalstown were now on the attack and Anna Wogan put over a lovely score from open play. Nicola Mongey operating on the full forward line managed to get her shot over the goalie’s head and into the net. Another move from Zoe Kirwan found Anna Wogan who made no mistake slotting another point over the bar putting the visitors into the lead for the first time.
Neither team giving up without a fight, the Cilles girls scored another three points, despite strong tackling from the Seneschalstown defence, taking them ahead again. Battling hard the visitors were not to be outdone with super passing coming out of defence with Charlie Murray and Megan Clarke combing well with Zoe Kirwan who won the free. Anna Wogan who was having a super game put another two scores over from frees. A lovely move from Robyn Murray linked with Tara Traynor, Zoe Kirwan and Anna Wogan who pointed again pushing the visitors into the lead. The final say of the match was another free from Anna Wogan following a foul on Nicola Mongey.
This was a very well deserved victory for a team who have shown great spirit over the last two weeks and who despite finding themselves trailing behind have found the determination to keep playing to the very end. Another great team performance by all eighteen girls.
