Meath B League Division 2 Playoff
Summerhill 3-15 Seneschalstown 0-09
Ambitions of promotion to back to Division 1 of the B Leagues at the first time of asking came to a shuddering halt on Saturday evening in Dunganny for Seneschalstown’s Junior A side as they crashed to a fifteen point defeat at the hands of Summerhill. Prior to the throw in there had been an impeccably observed minutes’ silence in memory of Ciaran McCabe whose cousin Niall lined out on the forty for the Furze outfit.
From the off Summerhill looked far sharper and more up for the game as they built up an early lead against a disjointed Seneschalstown side who had moved into a one point lead after two minutes but from there on it was all downhill as Summerhill grew into proceedings and cut loose.
James Conlon looked lively up front as he grabbed two early points but all over the field the team struggled to get to grips with Summerhill and by half time the team from the south of the county held a formidable 3-08 to 0-04 lead.
The second half proved to be nothing more than an academic exercise as the match petered out with the outcome decided long before Gerry McGivney sounded the full time whistle.
And so a season which promised so much a few short weeks ago for Seneschalstown’s second side ends in disappointment with uncharacteristic performances in their Championship and League exits.
