Meath Ladies Division 1 League Round 3

Seneschalstown 0 -11 St. Ultans 2 – 10

Seneschalstown Senior Ladies fielded a very young and inexperienced team against St Ultans in the Meath Senior Ladies Round 3 League game on Thursday 20th April 2017 but produced a fantastic display of attacking football against the current Senior Football Champions St. Ultans.

The Seneschalstown Girls totally dominated the game for 50 minutes but could not shake off the experience of St. Ultans who hung on and showed their cleverness to win out the game. Fielding a very inexperienced side the Yellow Furze girls didn’t let that hinder their game and their enthusiasm in every tackle and attack saw them cut through St Ultans effortlessly but unfortunately didn’t capitalise on the score board.

Seneschalstown opened the scoring with a superb Louise Coyle point followed up by a St Ultans equaliser. The next 15 minutes was a total one sided affair with Seneschalstown breaking through the St Ultans rear guard relentlessly but their final efforts saw them kick 13 wides in succession and only build up a four point lead. Points from Aoife Lenihan, Stacey Grimes and two from Amy Gilsenan saw Seneschalstown lead by four until St Ultans struck two frees and a point from play to reduce their lead to two points at half time.

St Ultans kicks of the second half with a point which was cancelled out by a superb long rang effort from Aoife Lenihan. St Ultans kicked two further points before Aoife Lenihan and Nina Murphy broke through and kicked two great points under pressure to keep three points between the teams. The Ultans started to dictate in the three-quarter stage of the game and were a warded a dubious goal to allow them tie up the game at ten each. The girls didn’t let this get them down and when Roisin Commons fired over a point followed by a Stacey Grimes free the girls led by two and everyone really worked hard to prevent a St Ultans come back.

Unfortunately, the last five minutes of the game was the sucker punch for Seneschalstown who saw them concede a goal and three points and ultimately concede the game to the Senior Champions. It was a superb performance from such a young inexperienced Seneschalstown Ladies team and the future of Seneschalstown Ladies football is well and truly still intact.
