Seneschalstown overcame St Ultans in this Coca Cola Meath Senior Championship Round 2 clash played in Seneschalstown. The home team were on top from early on and built up a healthy ten-point half time lead. St Ultans upped the tempo in the second half and despite being down to thirteen players for a time the home side ran out deserving winners.

Stacey Grimes opened the scoring with a free in the second minute. Nina Murphy then saw her effort cannon back off the post in the fifth minute before Louise ‘Cheesy’ Coyle doubled the home teams advantage in the sixth minute. Ailbhe Rooney added a third point on eight minutes following an excellent run and Amy Gilsenan opened her account in the tenth minute. Grimes added another free in the fifteenth minute and St Ultans opened their account in the seventeenth minute with a point from play. Fiona O’Rourke pooped over a point with the outside of her right boot in the eighteenth minute. Nina Murphy tagged on two points in the twentieth and twenty second minutes before Gilsenan added to her account on twenty-five minutes.

Two minutes later the first goal arrived when Coyle pounced on a mistake in the Ultans rear-guard to slide the ball into the net. St Ultans received a boost in the thirty third minute when following a point blank save from Lisa Mullen the ball broke to the Ultans attacker who drove the ball high to the roof of the net. With a few injuries in the first half the home team had team had time to tag on two late points from Gilsenan and O’Rourke to leave the Half time score at 1-11 to 1-01.

Like she did in the first half Grimes opened the scoring in the second period with her third free of the evening. The Ultans upped the tempo and scored four points without reply between the thirty fourth and thirty eighth minutes to cut the deficit. Kiah Geraghty then opened her account with an instant reply with a point from play. Both teams were contesting every ball with great vigour and St Ultans were awarded a penalty in the forty second minute as the home team were reduced to fourteen with the sin binning of full back Edel McGrane for the foul.

However, Lisa Mullen pulled off a tremendous save to deflect the penalty over the bar. Mena Sheridan moved back to the full back berth from her midfield position and things got that bit more difficult when Grainne Nulty was sin binned two minutes later. The Seneschalstown rear-guard upped their performances and Adelle Carolan and co. kept the Ultans scoreless during the numerical disadvantage while tagging on a point from Kiah Geraghty in the forty fifth minute which proved to be the home teams last score. St Ultans had the influential Ger Doherty sin binned in the fiftieth minute. Scoring was at a premium in the final quarter with only one point in the sixty fourth minute from St Ultans.

Shortly Afterwards ref Sean Gaughan sounded the final whistle on a deserved victory for the home team who have full points from their opening two games.
